I have not read the other posts- but I've upgraded every Saab I've owned (and can still eat- $$$).

You pref on head or speakers 1st- just keep in mind the end-product. That way you don't go out and buy a head that won't support some cool amp you want in the future.

Head- 2-3 pre-outs minimum. Brand is up to you, but Pioneer makes a great unit for less $$ than say, Alpine or Blau.

Amp (yes, for the $$$, the best way to improve sound quality! Some use amps for shear noise, but most use to clean up quality. The amp is especially important if you opt for higher end speakers. Depending on your final speaker choice- one amp will be fine. This will be able to run the rear speakers and perhaps a sub-woofer.

Speakers- loose the stock!!! The front 4s will sound better with anything AF. Your choice to relocate and increase. Some put in doors, some on kick panel. I prefer quality replace 4s with seperate tweet- I sink the woof in the dash hole and mount the tweete under the dash (pointing at me). Most of my sound volume comes from the rear- the 4X10 MUST go! Some replace with 6X9, but recommend a 6.5 bi or tri round speaker. Seperate tweets strategically located add to quality!

Sub- 1 10" in a closed box will give you sharp bass and fill the car. the amp will allow you to tune the woof and you don't have to sound like a moving woof if you don't want to. A closed system will save you space- you can even mount the amp to the box to save even more room.

Wow- this is long. Some ideas on price (wide range especially based on quality of parts)

Head- 250-400
Front- 150-200
Rear- 350-500
Sub w/ box- 100-150
Amp- 250-350
Wires, etc...- 40

I'd say for 1K+ a bit you will love your sound!
