I put in a/d/s/ 234im speakers in the dash of my 900s conv. These speakers are co-axial, but they have completely outboard x-overs, with a 12 db/octave slope. The installation was a chllenge, though. The tweeter sits on a pillar about 1/2" or so above the mounting surface of the speaker. I had aluminum spacer/mounting rings waterjet cut out of aluminum ($20 cdn), which I epoxied to the underside of the speaker grills after removing the original plastic studs. This provides a much more secure attachment than the clips, and the a/d/s/ speakers are far too heavy for the clips at any rate. I mounted the x-overs under the rear seat. I replaced the stock deck with an old (1994) Clarion 6770 Cd deck - it integrates very well with the look of the car. For power I have an Orion 50x4 amp under the platform in the trunk.

Overall I wanted the car to retain its stock look, which is why I didn;t go with kick panels. The sound is much much better than stock, but the imagining isn't the best, since the speakers are on the dash. I haven't played with the x-over or tweeter settings yet, though. Finally I plan to put one or two JBL 6W0 (6" sub?woofers) in the center console to finish the sytem off. I am very impressed with the a/d/s/ 234im's. They put out more than enough volume even screaming down the highway with the top down, and they're only a four inch speaker!

If anyone is thinking of putting in these speakers, and wants a drawing of the spacer ring/detailed instructions, let me know.

Jeff
