Is Autobox w/ 70k too risky to buy vs 9-3?

Hi,
I am considering a '96 9000 CS w/ 70k auotmatic for 6,700.
Also a '99 9-3 S auto w/ 74k for 7,700.
I know the 9000 autobox is a weak point and might cause me $4000 repair bill in a couple of years where the 9-3 is more bullet proof.
I need to drive them both but I was just trying to gather info.
Also does the '96 9000 have other typical issues that would make it more of a pain? (I am not afraid of doing the heater core. What about rear seal?)
Thanks in advance,
-Peter
