You obviously have never driven on ultra high performance tires (not all season tires, but performance/summer tires specifically designed for max traction). If you have, you would not even be asking this question.

Yeah, but the S4 Avant's tires (a Pirelli with a treadwear of 160 is either PZero, P7000 Summer or maybe even P6000 Summer) will hold better in the wet longer than any all season tire. Period. End of story. That's what they're specifically designed for.
All season tires try to do everything but not any one thing well. I take that back. They probably last longer.
