Just cursorily went over the the test figures for the SP A2. Funny numbers. Your "8.7" is from an online survey-a most subjective interpretation and should not beconsidered factually as accurate. These numbers are virtually meaningless and cannot be compared from one class of tire-say, max performance-to another (all season). Apples and oranges.
A check of actual test track figures (under controlled conditions with identical cars) would be more appropriate. Tire Rack has results that we can compare.
The SP A2 gets a 6.39 for the performance test track drive ratings for wet traction. The P6000 Sport Veloce got a 5.59 for wet traction. In fact, the SP A2 does better in all the wet tests than the P6k SV. That said, the P6k SV and SP A2s have virtually the same wet lap times (35.60s and 35.61s respectively).
The P7000 Summers and P6000 Summers have not wet test results.
The 17" tires I have on my 900SET do have some wet test results. The Bridgestone S-02 Pole Positions have a wet traction rating of 8.44. Its wet lap times were 31.65s. Nearly 4 seconds better than the SP A2s. Dunlop's SP9000 has a wet traction rating of 7.02 and a wet lap time of 32.89s.
What does this mean? Well, again we are somewhat comparing apples and oranges but less so than the online survey results, in that the tire sizes used during testing are different.
In any event, I have stated before that buying the most expensive tire is not necessarily the best or even the smartest option. I did say that one should stick to the manufacturers recommendation of speed rated tires and not to downgrade. For a 9-5 stock tire, you can get W rated Kumho Ecstas for $75/tire-cheaper than what you paid for your $92/tire SP A2s. Or V rated Dunlop SP Sport W-10s for $80/tire.
So, you give up some treadlife provided by H rated all season tires. What you get in return are tires with ratings specified by the manufacturer.
If your 9-5 spits you off the road or slams into the car in front of you shod with H rated all seasons, don't blame SAAB for your conscious decision not to get OEM spec tires. It's like tennis-when you play bad, it's the racket. In this case, it's the tires.
That's all I'm saying.
