that it doesn't snow 100% of the time in the winter. In fact, there is only snow or ice on the road a very small percentage of the time between November through March, and I'm not willing to completely compromise my car's handling for all of the rest of those months just for those few hours when the roads are snow covered.
I'm doing 2,000 miles per month, or 10,000 per season on my winter tires, and I'll be surprised if I will experience snow or ice on the road for 700 of those miles. I want good performing tires on my car for the other 9,300 miles I drive in the winter.
That's why I think Nokian NRWs are a good choice for the winter. They are designed primarily for cold weather and do a very good job when it is cold. Also, Nokian designed them as all weather tires, not all season tires, and I anticipate that they will do pretty well on snow and ice. Probably not as good a pure snows, but much better than snows the rest of the time.
