Michelin Pilots seem to be the preferred solution, but you can search this and the performance boards for other choices. Ironically, 9-5 Aeros come with Michelins, but their owners prefer the Dunlops. Maybe we should all get together at this year's owner's convention for a tire swap. People have reported good success with the Abbott package as well. Maybe I'll get one installed someday.

My beef with Saab about this, and my problem with the tired argument that the Viggen is simply a "challenging" car to drive, is that this runs counter to Saab's philosophy of balanced design: performance, safety, design, control (it's in their brochures, in case you missed it). An unpredictable car is an unsafe car - that's all there is to it - and the Viggen is unpredictable. Other auto makers can make cars with this much torque that handle just fine, thank you, so Saab should be able to do the same. The kicker is that these problems are apparently quite easy to fix - some beefed up parts and a tire swap, that's all - no unsurmountable chassis problems inherent to the platform, as some argue (not that that would be an excuse). Abbott came out with their fix within weeks after the car was released, with increased performance and no loss of comfort, so why couldn't Saab have fixed this on their own? The only reasons I can find is that they either didn't care enough to test the car thoroughly themselves (and can't change now, as it would be an admission of guilt), or that they are so concerned about the bottom line that they refuse to put in what would probably amount to around 500 bucks to them in better quality parts.

There should be no question in anyone's mind about this. There have been too many complaints, too many poor reviews and too many unsold Viggens to leave doubt that Saab has screwed up. As Viggen owners, we need to stop spouting these lame excuses, curb the fanaticism, and start demanding that Saab fix our cars.
