I put about 15,000 miles on my Viggen before the temperature in Atlanta cooled off enough for me to want to go to flight academy. I admit that up to that point, I had certain hesitations regarding what the limits of handling of my car were and I always had a rather uneasy feeling that it was about to do something screwy and unpredictable as I started pushing the car to what I thought was approaching it's limit. Two days at Road Atlanta completely changed my mind. Given an opportunity to really push this car's limits in a controlled and safe environment proved to me that the stock car (yes, even with SP2000's) is a remarkable machine. As hard as I tried to get the car to come unglued, it's recovery was always predictable and had limits that I have not often felt in any car. One can argue till one is blue in the face about FWD vs RWD, balance, which is best, but I for one am convinced this car is as predictable and high performance as any car I have ever been in.
Understeer is predictable if you know what to look for. You can dial in oversteer with the throttle and by adjusting rear tire pressure.
There is no getting around the fact that 250+ ft-lbs of torque is nearing the limits of practicality on a FWD, at least in terms of fast acceleration from standstill. But to say the car is unpredictable is a sign of lack of familiarity with this vehicle, in my humble opinion.
If you have not yet been to Flight Academy, do yourself a favor and go. If you have been, then I am speechless as to what you find so wrong with the car.
Go have fun with it. There are no doubt better tires out there than the SP2000's, don't worry about that, you'll be changing them out soon enough anyway, if not, you couldn't possibly know what the limits of the car are, nor if it is indeed unpredictable.
