Sorry but your comment has triggered what used to be called a fixed action pattern by animal behaviorists.........a rant....

Who cares since anyone who would chose a trunk over the hatch probably drives in snow with summer performance tires or goes hiking in wingtips.

The issue is not what the mindless conformists in the mobocracy think they want but what those of use in the suburban outback need for utlility. Just wait until the new 9-3 owner tries to put a bike or 27" colore TV in their truck!!!!

SAAB really screwed up because had they offer a comparable suspension and engine package to the Acura, Volvo, Audi, Mercedes and BMW and also offered a better value due to greater utility, they would have garnered more market share. Now SAAB has almost no distinguishing features and the Infiniti/Nissan line up has surpassed SAAB for styling originality.

The heart and soul of a SAAB buyer used to be based upon the nexus of value comprised of a package consisting of price, comfort, performance, design (utility) and safety.

SAAB just sawed the (Design/utility) leg off its 9-3 "value" table so it could appeal to the same mindless lemmings who eat at Olive Garden or Red lobster when they want authentic Italian food or Seafood.

Removing the hatchback makes about as much sense as terminating the convertible from the line-up. The focus group used by Kelly-Ennis asked the pin heads who buy Acuras and Lexi what they wanted in a car? I call these people pin heads because they are only slightless more evolved then the headless masses who buy Camrys and Accords over base model SAABs.

Thus, my point, is why should the enlightened care what the unenlightened think about the virtues of decreased utility in the name of conformity (coolness)? Are we all 15 year olds seeking external affirmation from society? Hell why doesn't SAAB just throw a v-8 in the 9-5 and drop the 4 cylinder turbo because John Q Lemming has been programmed to want a V-8.

What happened to the notion of offering a superior product at a superior price. Guess Kelly-Ennis did not learn that lesson during her oversight of the implosion at Oldsmobile.
