Unfortunately, its just not possibleto make a hatch car as stiff as a trunk. Even Subaru, probably manufacturer of some of the best chassis' around, can't: the WRX wagon had a different track than the sedan, because of stiffness isues.
FWIW, I can easily fit a bike in the trunk of my SS, and a 27" TV if its face down (or face up). Not the best way to move a TV, but it was just a short distance....
Saab is selling fewerr cars now than the 80's (IMO) because they let their models languish too long before updating them, causing buyers to overlook them when buying. And when they did update, they weren't very good. And the old news of Saabs' demise stuck in a lot of peoples heads, too.
