Well according to your prmise for marketing a car to the largest demographic, SAAB should market a car for under 25K with rear wheel drive powered by a non-turbo V-6. I think this is called a family sedan ie Passat, Accord, or Camry.
And, while you are throwing out the performance baby with the bathwater, don't forget to discard saftey and performance because most people are not willing to pay for it. In fact SAAB should cut corners and just keep the price low. I think this is called a Hyundai or a Kia.
The notion that upscale car buyers do not desire utility is simply wrong. Look at the Infiniti FX/Nissan Murano car based SUV and the sale of Volvo wagons!!! Fact is that if I wanted a sporty FWD sedan I would could buy an Acura or an Audi!!! Who and what is SAAB is aiming to compete with???
