You make excellent points on the multi-vehicle households, but why then forgo sales to SUV or truck manufacturers when SAAB could market utility to such households. Bottom line is by your own statements, you seem to indicate that there is a market for utility and that SAAB is ignoring this in favor of making sales to those who do not value utility.
Question: Ever seen a family take a vacation in 2 door coupe or 4 door sedan? I have in four door hatchback SAAB 9-3 with a dog.
Lots of people drink lousy mass marketed beer. Should all the brewers just eschew quality in favor of low unit cost production and adverstising?
Your assumptions about profit being the only goal in business is flawed. Social utility is just as important for anyone serving on the board of any corporation. GE and Disney flourished in the 90s because they created value and this value drove sales and profits.
When you try to make a profit without creating value, you create a balloon boom thay is susceptible to bust which is what I fear will happen to SAAB as it loses the loyalty of its core clientele in search of customers who do not want a SAAB. Where is the value in creating a car that is already manufactured by 12 other companies????
