If you do decide to go into teaching, I highly recommend that you take some courses on teaching beforehand. Even some courses on curriculum, assessment, and the like will help you out quite a bit, and the student teaching experience will really help you decide one way or the other. Most first year teachers who quit after the 1st year is due to their being unprepared - in other words, having an engineering degree does not necessarily prepare you to teach! So you know where I'm coming from: my wife and 3 best friends are all teachers, from elementary to high school, and it's something I'm considering once I finish up my physics PhD.
