Keith
I have also thought about teaching but have never really gotten myself in the position to try. I have not worked for very long, but there are two qualities,in my opinion, of a great job, be it teaching or engineering (well, three if you count $$$$). The most important is you have to like where and who you work for. And of course you have to be interested in your job. I've had many interesting jobs that had such bad management and moral. I've also had so-so interesting jobs with great people to work for.
If you want to get out and help out now, volunteer to work on various after-school projects at Schools. You get to work with the most interested and motivated kids around. I worked on various electric bike and scooter projects.
