With your quantitative background, you may wish to consider a Ph.D. program - especially one that interfaces with the practicing of science. Although these programs take longer (3-5 years), your career options are extrememly broad upon completion. Ph.D. programs are typically subsidized by the university as the students are conducting research and publishing along with acquiring their degrees.
I have two Ph.D. students from the Lynch School of Education in my lab at Boston College: 1) one studies the ecology of coyotes using radiotelemetry and works with two local high schools - one urban - one rural, 2) the other studies endangered turtles and directs a reintroduction program that serves as the basis for an entire science curriculum at an inner city high school in South Boston. Both are receiving full tuition remission and app 25K/year in stipends.
Some of the top programs include, Indiana U., U. Michigan, U. Cal-Berkeley, Boston College....
Don't hesitate to contact...
