The battery light does indeed turn on before starting the car. The car's continued normal operation in running (at least at idle, it is not legal to hit the road yet) and the cessation of electrical calamity make me believe that the EDU is somehow very wrong. Seems to me that I've started the car so many times recently (especially to test the new vacuum hose installed to render the turbo gauge operational) that if the battery wasn't charging at all, there would no longer be a charge. Each incident of the key in the "on" position shows the same alarmingly low voltage on the EDU - 10.1 volts. This was the displayed voltage when the battery was installed brand new, too - I have never seen it higher.
Battery cables looked to be in pretty good shape, with no excess deposits on them. I will re-check them on Wednesday, along with the meter readings that I haven't gotten a chance to get yet.
Is there a possible reason an EDU could be drastically "wrong"?
