A turbo offers the ability to run an engine at high power, but not the necessity to do so all the time. In practice the HOT engine will be loafing most of the time, and not under any particular stress. In real life SAAB engines are very long lived - as many on this board can attest. When I bought my first tubbo SAAB 12 year ago I was worried about turbo life. I have worked to try to break the engine for over a decade with little success. 150,000 miles, with no oil burning, excellent emissions tests, all with the original turbo and every thing else.
