Will SAABUSA still honor the warranty on a new 9-5 or 9-3 if you use BARs on a new vehicle? If Saab "blesses" BARs on new vehicles than I who am I to raise objections? Do they use it on their aluminum head/cast iron B202/B204 blocks today? I don't know.
I cannot prove BARs is harmful to coolant system used on vehicle since new, nor can you prove it is a benefit. I believe the coolant flushes is the reason for you good history. It is America, we all have freedom of choice to put in our cars whatever we want.
My concern is where some people use BARs on a used Saab without known history to stop heater core leaks, radiator leaks, etc...They are not correcting the root cause of the problem. I have seen first hand the damage of wrong coolant (ethyl glycol Prestone) and neglected flushes (pitted heads, pited blocks, severly corroded head gaskets,etc...) on old 900's (91-92's) that I bought for my daughters.
I have two Saabs, 94 9000 Aero and 94 900TC that have always had Saab anti-freeze flushed every two years since new. i have not replaced water pumps, radiators, or heater cores (except for the 9000 Aero) and I don't use BARs. Temp. gages run very low, with low temp. swing . The heater core (OEM Valeo) w/plastic tanks and aluminum fins appered to fail at the fin-to-plastic tank interface-possibly an epoxy bond failure induced by thermal/mechanical fatigue (since the core has hot coolant flow through every time car is run -since i have ACC). Not like the 900 that has all bronze tank with heater valve to shut off coolant loop.
