Do what works for you, I'll do what works for me. I advise - over and over and over again - everyone to flush and refill every two years with a quality coolant (I use Mercedes, on Townsend's recommendation - perhaps not necessary, but it's only ten bucks, and it's worked for me). And I add Bar's Leaks religiously, simply because - I repeat - I've never had any cooling system problems for as long as I've used it. Perhaps I'd do as well without it, but since I'm doing so well with it, I see no point changing what works for me.

I cannot prove that it is the reason for my success with Saab cooling systems. However, it does appear to prove that BL is, at the very least, not harmful. And with all the tales of Saab cooling system problems out there - and my and Bob's and others' remarkable lack of problems - it makes sense to me to stay with what works. As I said, you have head gasket replacement experience and Bob and I and the rest don't. That's enough for me. I'm happy with what I do, you're happy with what you do. Just be aware that I'm not bashing your methods - they're absolutely sound, and you get good results. Our methods are sound too, as evidenced by our rather remarkable success with our Saab cooling systems. I understand your aversion to additives, and in fact, I share them. But when an additive appears to work, I use it. Our success speaks for itself. I wouldn't advise anyone to use anything that I thought would adversely affect the health of their car, but Saab cooling systems are notoriously problematic, so naturally I look for anything that might help. I don't see how you can ignore our track record. At the very least, I don't see how you can bash this product.
