The 9000 (I have 2) was a joint design and development project between separate companies. Each got a version for themselves. The NG-900 and it's successor the OG 9-3 (I have 1), and the 9-5 (I have one of those, too), were cars and SAAB was deeply involved in the development, GM-izing and all.
The 9-7 was a hastily rebadged Chevy truck, tweaked slightly to give SAAB an entry in the SUV market. A goofy move, IMHO, but so it goes.
As I said, they are a good enough truck, but they are still Chevys and that has good and bad to it.
