I was thinking about it after posting + mostly it was the seat skins they changed, right? Maybe the Subaru interior seemed more innocuous to me? As in, maybe a Subaru interior suits a low priced Saab decently whereas the GM truck elements seemed out of place to me? dunno... I guess I had much the same feeling looking at a 9-3ss and 9-2x side by side in the showroom (as 9-7x), but for other reasons (body, esp rear end) that overwhelmed the interior...
For some reason, the 9-7x interior really stood out to me... I just did a google image search for it, and it's true, they did integrate the Saab vents + cupholder etc (and similar wood trim), so that's nice, but that steering wheel + dash + even the way the key between the seats was installed... well, it just struck me... maybe I was expecting too much! Anyway, I'm sure it's great for what it is... neither 9-2x or 9-7x do much for me... all I can say is I'm glad the badge engineering is over! or at least in that direction... neat to see the new "9-5's" for the chinese market (see link)!
