"involved relationship" is a good way of explaining...

...my Saab escapades to my friends, I think.
It sounds like just as with any car, you can get either end of the stick in terms of the repair cycle, abuse, etc.
You're entirely correct, my dad has legit concerns--I don't mean to discount them. But I want to try to prove them (mostly) wrong. If I get this car, can it turn out to be a lemon? Of course. But I want to show him that, from Saabnet experience, these cars are just as reliable as the 900's that he enjoys. For my dad, the 900 is the right blend because they're relatively inexpensive if kept up (or have been for us), they're fun, safe, reliable, and because just about the only things we have taken the car to the mechanic for are pressing wheel bearings! We do all the work because, as has been said over and over, paying high prices at the mechanic is not fun--also, repairing your own car makes you understand it better and I think this is generally good!
I doubt that I'll be able to convince him to get this particular 9000 I've found because I already have a car, because we don't need another, where is the money coming from, etc.. if I could sell my car, it'd be a different story. This car, though, has had the DI and heater core replaced, as well as some other repairs, and the price (I think) can be negotiated to be right. Further evidence he will cite is that the car is halfway across the country from here and thus we can't go out and drive it. Fortunately, with a resource like Saabnet, I've been able to get one person to test drive a 900 for me that was out in Chicago--he gave a VERY detailed report and I almost bought the car. The owner sold it locally before he checked my e-mail saying I wanted it! Oh well. In any event, even if I don't get this particular car, it would be nice to get him to "believe in" the 9000's so when I find the next one that I want, I can seriously consider it without him saying things like they aren't reliable, they're hard to fix, and why not stay with what we know!
Again, I appreciate everyone's comments and I welcome more!
