Wow! Interesting thread!! - We have 3 Saab - '86 Classic 900 (315,000miles), a '94 9000 CS (130,000miles) and a '98 NG900 SE Turbo.
The 9000 has been essentially problem free to date - a new DI cassette at 50,000 miles is about it -- other than routine maintenance. It is a beauty of a car, comfortable ride and great performance (the NG 900 tops it on power and roadholding - but only by a little) - I'm looking at an Aero (performance, size and comfort!!)when the NG 900 dies!!
There are a lot of posts about the balance chain problem on the 2.3 liter engines - but frequent oil changes seem to be the key - pay heed to the recommendations about a good service history.
