I think anyone who has experience with 900's would quickly feel at home with a 9000. Having owned both, I'd say they both have their plusses and minuses. The 900 definately has simplicity on it's side, but once you start getting into cars from the early 90's (and your dad will have to sooner or later) almost all cars worth owning are going to have things like anti-lock brakes, air bags, climate control and other such complicated devices that can preclude doing it all yourself. I think the design of the 9000 eliminated a lot of the 900's quirky stuff and it's a much nicer car to drive in every way. It's definately more complicated, but well worth it.
