Hybrids are much more practical than pure electrics and probably make sense in a lot more situations.

My own economic situation is OK, not wealthy by any means but not hurting either. The chip on my shoulder has to do with people who are publicly "green" and tell us "little people" we have to conserve and make sacrifices, then go home to their private Taj Mahal. (The Hollywood elite are particularly bad this way.) I was not speaking of you or the choice of a Volt for anyone in your family and did not mean for it to be taken that way.

I certainly don't have anything against anyone who decides any particular vehicle is going to be best for his or her needs. In the case of the Volt, though, to my knowledge it has been heavily subsidized by the taxpayers so it's not really possible to make valid cost comparisons to other vehicles.
